Entry: Still Hanging in There Oct 21, 2004

Well folks I'm still battling the cold I've had since I got back from North Dakota. On top of that my allergies and asthma have been uncooperative turning me into a sloth. I haven't had the energy to go to the grocery store and my husband has been doing the cooking so I've not been following the Rosedale plan very faithfully. I am, though, trying to stay as close to it as I can with what I've got on hand. I did go to town and weigh yesterday and am holding steady which is a good thing but didn't have enough energy to go into the store. I've been assured that it is not pneumonia and I should be turning the corner soon. I am feeling better than I had been but still not up to par. I'm really looking forward to going full steam ahead on the diet because I felt so good when I was following it precisely. My husband unfortunately thinks iceberg is the only real lettuce so I'm looking forward to shopping for some nice leafy greens. For all of you who have supported me with your notes, thanks. And good luck to all of you who are starting the diet. As far as I know Dr. Rosedale's book is the only source of information on the diet at this point. I've heard that there have been a couple magazine articles, too. We should start sharing some recipes.

Is tarted the rosedale diet 5 dys ago. I have been munching on pecans and stirfrying with chicken and beef along with salds. egg and vegetables for breakfast. Seems wierd not to eat fruit like an apple but I am trying to wrok through it.
I have felt good on and off. I have kind of a headache and nasal drainage, sort of spacey feeling a lot. Is this a type of detox I ma going through? Any one else experience this?
I notice the bloating in my stomach is not as bad,
Would relly like to read some new posts on diet progress.

Hey ya,

I'm really interested to see how it is going with you. I notice you haven't posted for awhile. I started the diet on Oct 31 2005 and would love to talk with others about it. Please stop by my blog and say hello if you get a chance!

Hi, back again. After 3 days I have lost 2 pounds, this is after being stuck at the same weight for 4 weeks while doing Atkins STRICTLY. I am very encouraged, and I feel good.
TO dedawg: your symptoms are probably from carb withdrawal, especially if you were eating a lot of sugar and white flour products before you started this diet. Also from my reading over several years on the low carb diet, this is a normal reaction because your body is used to burning sugar, and it has to make new enzymes to switch to fat burning mode. So you should feel better, with probably more energy than ever once your body makes the adjustments.
Hope this helps.

I just started the diet yesterday. I have high hopes; this diet seems to make sense. It sure is different from Atkins; it's taking a lot of effort to get used to what I can and can't eat

i'm struggling, but losing a lot of weight. I am not hungry and enjoy the diet, but feel almost drugged, lethargic and very achey, if that's a word. 9 pounds in 6 days, with supplements and sticking to it. Anyone else have problems like that?

The Rosedale diet has got it licked. I am now developing a six pack of stomach muscles for the first time in my life. And I eat as much as I was. In fact, the more good fat I eat, the more defined I actually get.

Unbeliveable. Wish I had read the insulin lecture years ago.

Vickie - excited to hear how you are doing. I'd love to see if anyone else is doing this and how they are coming along. I too noticed a big difference in the way I feel. Feel free to email me directly:

I bought the Rosedale diet book as my last stab at losing weight. I figured if this didn't work, I'd go ahead and opt for lipo since I seem to carry most of it around my stomach. I've tried Atkins and I've tried South Beach (along with every other thing that's come along) and this one finally seems to be something that makes sense and that I can stick with. I actually like the recipies and I can tell a big difference in the way I feel after only 3 days. I haven't weighed yet, because I want to wait a full week, but I've been eating the heck out of almonds. I'm not craving sweets the way I normally do or hitting the vending machines at work since I'm grabbing the nuts instead. I had a great salad of field greens and avocado with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and garlic dressing and chicken and green beans. It was very satisfying. I think I may have finally found something that works and makes sense.

Been on the Rosedale diet on/off for about
two weeks. I am on this diet not to lose weight but rather to control my diet forever and work out exactly what I ought to be eating to improve and lengthen life. I initially found that I had hunger spells and low blood sugar to the point where I curled up on the sofa and didn't want to move. I also found that my brain was working much slower. So, of course, I had to rush for bread. I reckoned this couldn't be right so I re-read the book. Crucial to the diet is the fact that you are supposed to pile your plate high with fibrous carbohydrates. I was actually suffering from a lack of them! So now I eat lots of nuts, fibrous vegetables and chicken/turkey. I still get the odd period of hunger and when I do I just return to eating platefuls of vegetables. It seems unlikely that this will be a long term solution so I am hoping that the hunger pangs eventually disappear - Dr Rosedale says they should go by the end of three weeks. On the weight front - well I don't really know because I don't have scales - I pay more attention to clothes that I wear and how I look in the mirror. The diet definitely works in this respect - I am clearly more defined and well on my way to reaching a low bodyfat level. I do no exercise so these are pleasing results.

Just thought I'd pop in again and let you know that I blew it over the weekend but it only took me one day to get back on track. Yesterday I had so much energy that I did 30 minutes on the treadmill in the morning, lifted weights in the afternoon, and did another 30 minutes on the treadmill in the evening. Ate small meals all day and was totally satisfied.
Weird thing about this diet is that I don't crave carbs....I did whenever I tried Atkins, but not this time.
The only problem is lack of variety...I don't eat fish or tofu so I wonder how long I can stick to this just eating chicken and eggs, and no bread, tortillas, potatoes, etc. Any ideas?
Thanks!

I started the Rosedale Diet today. I was glad to find this site because there doesn't seem to be a lot of inofrmation about it on the internet yet. Today went really well. I like the fact that I can eat nuts as a snack, they are easy to carry with you, so I can eat a snack at work without having to worry about refrigeration. I tried the 6WBM before, and it worked, but it was just time consuming and hard to plan meals without getting bored. RIght now I'm at 202.5 lbs. How is everyone else doing?

Maybe this is the diet that us metabolically resistant women have been looking for. I started the diet after reading about it in a magazine a few days ago. Am interested in how others are doing. I am very impressed by your success so far. My doctor just told me that the new standard for exercise to lose weight is over 10 hours per week! 10 per week - I'd have to take a day off of work each week to make that happen!

Here's another salad dressing recipe. It uses equal parts of oil and worcestorshire sauce (instead of vinegar) so you end up using less. Has an interesting spicy, peppery taste that leaves you wanting more.
1 c olive oil, 1 c worscestershire sauce (what you use on steaks), 3 Tblspns minced garlic (I use the preminced and bottled type from the grocery store). Shake together before using. Another trick is to add it to your salad in a lidded plastic container and shake it all up. Kind of like McDonalds salad shakers. Uses less dressing but gets all over the salad.

I'm new to the blog world - is there more than these postings?

Hope you feel better soon, isn't that just the way it is? You start doing really well at something like this and then you get sick and waylayed for awhile. I do have a recipe for salad dressing that's really good. I'll share it at the end of this post.
I broke down and weighed myself after only 3 days on the diet (it was killing me! That scale has been calling me whole time) and I've already lost 3 pounds.
Man if I continue to lose a pound a day or even every other day I'll be happy as a clam!!
Did you discuss this plan with your doctor when you saw him/her? Would love to know what they said.
Okay, here's the recipe:

Salad dressing:
1 c. olive oil
1/3 c. balsalmic vinegar
3 t. mustard (your preference - either dijon or spicy brown)
2 cloves of garlic pierced or put through a garlic press
Shake well before each use and DO NOT refrigerate

These are estimates on the measurements, I usually just 'eyeball' it. But if you like garlic, you'll love this!

Good luck!
Mara
